Hope Church

My dad Mark Jordan is a pastor at Hope Church. I am donating the redesign of the church’s website.

Hope Church was created in 1997 in Dallas, Georgia. After my family moved to this church, it became apparent that the website was outdated. The design looked great once upon a time (as is usually the case with website designs!) but it was time for a face lift. I decided that I would make a donation to Hope Church in the form of a website redesign.

The website is huge—it has over 20 pages! The first step was develop a “sitemap” to show how the pages would be organized. The first change we knew needed to be made was to make the navigation more user friendly by incorporating a dropdown menu. My dad and I sat down to develop a flowchart in Figma.

Then, I started the mockup phase, creating a mockup of the site using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. During this stage, I began thinking about the church’s mission and how I could use design to reflect this. I knew it would be important to incorporate colors in a fun yet professional way. The church is very diverse, so it was also crucial to show people from all ages and ethnicities in the images.

After the mockup design was approved, I began the coding stage. I used WordPress with Avada builder to code this site. While I was coding the home page, I ran into an issue: the five boxes under “Welcome to Hope Church” required more intricate coding than I anticipated. I took to the internet to develop my Figma skills and used the app to build this section. I recreated the layout in Figma then used its CSS features to export the customized code. I then used nested columns within Avada to complete this section.

This website is still under development, expected to be complete within the next couple of weeks. Check back soon for a link to the site after it has gone live!
