Porch Light Bakery
Porch Light Bakery is my aunt’s company. I got to create a visual identity for her, including a logo and business cards!
During our initial conversation, we discussed the inspiration behind “Porch Light Bakery.” My aunt Kate chose this name to inspire the warm, cozy feeling of fresh-baked desserts. She shared with me a memory from her childhood: when the porch light flashed after a long day of playing outside, she knew it was time to come home to some tasty treats made by her mom. Many of the recipes she uses today have been passed down through my family for generations–hence the tagline: “Heirloom Confections.”
The Process
After learning about the inspiration for her bakery’s name, the next step was to understand her design preferences. Kate loves powdery pink tones inspired by eclectic home decorations. Together, we chose two beautiful shades of pink to incorporate into her visual identity. We settled on a font family: Josefin Sans. She wanted shapes that reflected the unique shapes found in her home decor. Then, it was time to start sketching!

I showed her several variations of the logo design until we found the perfect style and layout (sketch #4). I then used these sketches to vectorize the logo design using Adobe Illustrator. The logo design features a rectangle with scalloped edges. On the top is an arch with a hand-illustrated porch light hanging in the center. Look closely and you’ll noticed a heart-shaped filament inside the light bulb! This represents the love and care that goes into each of Kate’s baked goods.
The Logo & Brand

Once the logo design was completed, I worked with Kate to design and print business cards with her contact information. The business cards incorporate some of the design elements from the logo, such as the double border with thickness variations. On the front is an icon version of her logo: a double-bordered circle surrounding the porch light.

As Porch Light Bakery continues to grow, we have plans to create several more pieces including a menu, stickers, and custom packaging. Stay tuned!
