The Plant Lady Logo Design

Linda Evans, lovingly known as “The Plant Lady,” requested a new logo for her plant shop in Downtown Cartersville, Georgia. Her original logo was beautiful, but it was too complex for most applications. She wanted a design that would appeal to plant lovers (such as myself!) and that would be useful in many different scenarios.

First, I started with establishing a color palette. I referenced pictures of plants to pick the perfect shades of green. I also drew inspiration from her original logo to add a soft pink to her brand identity, which can be used as an accent color.

Linda wanted fonts that were feminine and easily readable. I chose the script font Fairwater for its script-like design and legibility. Unlike many script fonts, Fairwater is more open and geometric. This makes it easy for younger audiences who may not have learned to read cursive in school to understand.

The circular icon is a stylized illustration of a Monstera deliciosa leaf, an iconic houseplant loved by nearly every plant collector. Their leaves are unique because, as the plant matures, they develop more and more fenestrations, which look like holes and splits. I was sure to incorporate these instantly recognizable fenestrations in the design.
